analysis of pulse magazine

This magazine is a South Asian British music magazine however it is aimed more at producing dance and choreography as the three models on the front are all choreographers who have choreographed dances for large events and popular music videos. However the genre of the magazine is still Asian music with many British influences which still makes it relevant to the genre of the magazine I propose to create. The masthead, PULSE, is faded and almost opaque which gives most the focus and the attention of the magazine to the models and the more relevant text as a majority of the readers of the magazine will know the name of the magazine. The masthead text is also in front of the models and partially covers their faces which is why the faded masthead is essential in order to still bring attention to the models despite their faces being partially covered. The brown and orange colour scheme used may have been used to reflect the colours of the South Asian culture. The three models are famous professionals in the music industry and are all dance producers and choreographers. The four most important and the most popular are topics are featured in the largest text and are placed on the right of the magazine in order to attract the most attention to the four captions.

The contents page uses very neutral colours and uses the colour scheme black grey red with a white background which gives the priority of attention to the text and allows it to stand out from the background. The colour scheme and simple layout, where the pictures and grouped together with the text surrounding it, also reflects the style of South Asian dance which is simple and uses colours and patterns to bring it alive. The images also reflect the people, places and artists that the magazine feature.

This masthead of this double page spread is in large bright text in order to stand out the from the rest of the black text. directly underneath the masthead there is the rhetorical question 'who were the bar girls'. This evokes thought in the reader and also interest which causes the reader to want on and find the answer to the question. The models in the image below the picture may possibly be the bar girls. The model appear to be dancing and the location may possibly be a show where the featured artists performed. Under the picture there is a small introduction into what the article will contain. The text is laid out in columns with the significant or important parts of the text placed to the left of the column in a bright orange text again to ensure that it stands out from the text. Finally there is also a book written by one of the artists modeled on the front cover advertised on the second page with the QR link beneath. this is a very effective method of advertising as pages for advertisement are usually not looked at and therefore placing the advert with the ensure increases the chances of if it being noticed.
